Scrappage Scheme -
As expected, the Government announced the much anticipated scrappage scheme in order to encourage drivers out of old and into new, lower emitting vehicles. From mid-May 2009, drivers will receive a £2,000 discount on cars and vans when trading in vehicles at least ten years old.

*If you have any deals that might involve scrappage allowance please contact us to check the deal against the deals we can get you. Remember the manufacturer is contributing £1000 per vehicle which it is going to have to find from somewhere.

Company car tax -
From 6th April 2011, CO2 emission thresholds for main company car tax bands will be reduced by 5g CO2 per km to 130g/km. Company car tax rules remain unchanged for 2009/10.

Vehicle excise duty -
With effect from 1st May 2009, a new 13 band CO2 based graduated vehicle excise duty system comes into force with an introduction of a £5 increase per band applying to both cars and vans.

Fuel duty -
As of 1st September 2009, fuel duty will increase by 2 pence per litre and by 1 pence per litre above inflation each year from 2010 until 2013.

As you will be aware, the Chancellor of the Exchequer gave his annual pre budget report on 24 November amidst growing uncertainty about the UK economy. The biggest changes announced such as the temporary reduction in standard rate VAT from 17.5% to 15% were of course already well known having been anticipated by the media, however amongst the detail of the report were some short term changes to the business tax regime.
